Jacqueline Scotcher (Ph.D.) is an artist based in Northern NSW, Bundjalung Country. Working primarily with abstract painting, she’s interested in making art about what it feels like moving through and connecting with particular environments. Time, place and movement are enduring themes in her practice. Layered painterly surfaces, path motifs and broad gestural brushstrokes are recurring features.
“I use art as a way to connect with my direct experience, my bodily presence. At a time when lifestyles are increasingly digitally-mediated and disconnected from the local, I see this connection as vital in terms of both a personal relationship and in forging wider community bonds.”
Jacqueline has completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (2009), Honours in Creative Industries (2012) and Doctorate in Philosophy (Creative Arts, 2018). She has worked as an artist and educator for the past decade. Recent exhibitions include ‘Boundary Rider’ Northern Rivers Community Gallery (2026) and Distract/Attend Logan Art Gallery (2024).

Major Projects
2026 Boundary Rider. collaborating with Dane Scotcher (digital animation) to produce a major exhibition displayed at Northern Rivers Community Gallery in January 6th – March 1st 2026. An exhibition summary:
Scotcher and Scotcher believe that connecting with the natural environment’s rhythms is at the threshold of deeper inner knowing. Through a ‘slow’ approach to digital animation and abstract painting, the duo attempt to give credence to these often intangible and quiet internal terrains, which are essential in navigating an increasingly noisy world.
2024 Distract|Attend. Researching the effects of modern media on lifestyles. I’m considering how slowing down and paying attention can be a rebellious act and counterpoint to this contemporary concern. I am pondering how creative flow and mindful attention can help us respond to the often overwhelming issues of our time and live a more empathetic life.
This project’s exhibition was held at Logan Art Gallery, QLD in January-March 2024.
2018 Wayfaring: Painting and Place in the Far North. Doctorate research where I developed a mindful painting-walking methodology as a mode of place-making in the Australian Tropics
