Boundary Rider Exhibition Wraps Up

A sincere thank-you to Northern Rivers Community Gallery for hosting our exhibition and all the visitors who came by. Dane and I were proud of the show we put together and so enjoyed hearing the feedback from visitors. A highlight was the artists’ talk where we got to meet members of the community that the work resonated with.
From here, we will reflect on this work and I know will lead to more projects together. This exhibition pushed my painting and I feel revealed some exciting new directions for me. I’m also excited to see how Dane continues to use a digital medium to promote connections with nature, rather than as a mode that so often pulls us away from the real world.
We are so grateful to be able to share our work with the world! — Jacquie

Boundary Rider by Jacqueline & Dane Scotcher, Jan 7- March 1 2026

We find that developing a personal relationship with the surrounding environment and its natural rhythms is at the threshold of deeper inner knowing. Connecting with place is a portal into understanding self. When we deepen bodily connections with nature, greater respect and empathy is emanated for self and then out into the world. At a time when lives are increasingly online and disconnected from the local, we see this connection as vital.

This work is born from attending to natural rhythms. Moon cycles, ocean horizons, dawn/dusk, tidal shifts, rolling hinterland, earth’s strata, and night skies were all ingredients in the making process. These elements guided our digital animation and painting practices, inspiring us to experiment with materials in an effort to speak to their daily presence and the intangible connections between outer and inner worlds they elicit. These special connections between world, mind & body are elusive, more felt than decisive. Art offers a way to dwell in this atmosphere.

Boundary Rider is an invitation into our world and deeper into yours.

Head up. Slow down. Move into yourself.

Boundary Rider Exhibition Opens

My brother Dane & I have collaborated in an exhibition. ‘Boundary Rider’ is a collection of abstract paintings (made by me) and digital video projections (made by Dane). Our intention was to tune into natural rhythms experienced in our local environment and then let them reverberate through our making processes. We hoped the resulting installation would offer a insight into our inner worlds, while still having grounding elements from the landscape.

Would love to see you at the opening event, Thurs Jan 8th 5.30-7.30pm!

‘Boundary Rider’ runs Jan 8- March 1 at Northern Rivers Community Gallery, 44 Cherry St Ballina.
Gallery Open Wed-Fri 9am-3pm, Sat-Sun 9.30am-1pm.

Some recent feedback:
“Thanks Jacquie for putting together such an inspiring course, I’ve just completed final lessons. I really enjoyed the short lesson format followed by the practical component, and many times those little warm up sessions/ experiments led me to some new ideas and pieces. just playing around with colour, line and shapes without any expectations really added something to my work.” -Cathy
