Many Moons

Contemplating the passing of time has been a human obsession. I understand why some cultures worshipped the moon. These paintings emerged from an active effort to look up and notice the moon cycles. I find connecting with a natural rhythm really helps whenever my attention feels a bit fractured. These noticings brought arcs, overlaps and repeated shapes into my studio practice. The contrast between perfect natural forms and cycles with nature’s unpredictability, guided my painting approach. Through the slow act of layered painting, I aimed to embody a sense of constant movement paired with clarity. Perhaps this is what ‘Many Moons’ is teaching me; that the constant flow of time can only be slowed through my attention.

May these paintings pay homage to the many moons experienced and offer gratitude for those to come.
