I recently went to see the extensive exhibition Illumination: The Art of Philip Wolfhagen at the Cairns Regional Gallery. Wow. If you get the opportunity to see this exhibition, seize it. It is at Cairns until July 6th.

Wolfhagen’s landscape paintings have been influential on my own due to their open spaces, painterly marks, reflection of time and atmosphere. On screen images do not do these large scale pieces justice.

Exhibiting a body of artwork is extremely satisfying, with Interior|Exterior: Landscapes form the Far North at Cairns Regional Gallery being no exception. This exhibition is now finished, done and dusted. These artworks have had a great past month enjoying being viewed the diverse audience Cairns has to offer, thank-you to all who took the time.
Upon reflection these paintings and photographs have unlocked many new ideas that I intend to continue on with and improve upon. The tropical climate of the FNQ region will remain at the core of upcoming studies, this is a landscape I am not through with……

The Interior|Exterior: Landscapes from the Far North exhibition is open! Running until April 20th. Opening event today at 2pm, with opening speaker Barbara Dover.

All artworks for Interior|Exterior are delivered to the Cairns Regional Gallery and currently being hung. Great to see blank walls filled with paintings and the space transform…. I will post an ‘after’ shot soon!

This group of works are primarily painting and mixed media reflecting upon the last three years since I moved to Far North Queensland and my experience of the local landscape.

If you cannot make the opening afternoon, no problem, the exhibition runs from March 15th – April 20th.
