#artforfloods

Thinking of donating towards those affected by the recent flood events?? How about doing so by buying a work of art by an Australian/NZ artist through @artforbales– there is so much on offer, where 100% of purchase will go to nominated flood relief/recover charity. Win-Win.

I have a painting available in the mix. Read on for my story and #artforflood details…

Probably like most, I can’t quite yet comprehend the magnitude of the recent flooding events. From north of Brisbane, continuing right down the coast… places changed, lives changed, some forever.

The city of Lismore (and surrounds Coraki, Woodburn, Murwillumbah, etc.) in northern NSW were particularly hard hit. I heard Major Steve Krieg describe it as Lismore’s Cyclone Tracey event, as the city’s population is similar and sheer ‘wipe out’ devastation akin.
I grew up here, so did my Father and Grandparents. I really know these streets. I know they flood. But never could have imagined the new heights and breadth that was reached. Meters above any precedent.

Days before the flood I walked the ‘block’ with my husband and son. We shopped, bought supplies from ‘Fundies’ and went to the Art Gallery. We bumped into relatives and waved to shop-owner friends. Our decision to move back to the area after over a decade away to raise our family felt right.

Fast forward a week and every crevasse of the city of Lismore is submerged under muddied river water and I’m sure we will never be able to walk the streets in the same way. The stories, images and circumstances emerging are truly harrowing… My heart aches for business owners, home owners affected and the wider community.

In response to the widespread flooding the wonderful artists Kate Pittas and Andrea Hamann have launched #artforfloods. Here artists pledge artworks and 100% of the proceeds will go to nominated flood relief charity. In 2018/19 the same initiative raised over $160K for drought relief, amazing! This is such a productive way for both artists and collectors to give.

I have pledged ‘Blue Pool’, a work from my 2021 Go to Ground series. You can check out this series and inspiration here. Images are below.

It is a layered and textured painting that is framed and ready to hang. It’s regular price is $1100 but for this cause it is $750, which includes nation-wide shipping.

Check out https://www.artforfloods.com/ for a full list of artists participating and/or follow @artforbales on Instagram. DM me @jacquelinescotcher if you want to ask any questions or want to purchase the work. The Art for Floods campaign is volunteer run and working on the fly, so be patient as they upload all artists involved. They will announce the Big Sale Day soon.

I send so much love out to all flood affected communities. I will especially be giving time, space and love to my city of Lismore forever.
