Sky Darker Than Water- Trinity Beach 20th December, 3.30pm

The sky is darker than the water. This does not happen often, so its rarity makes it stand out. A crisp navy line articulates the perfect horizon laced with an aqua green underscore, separating the bruised clouded sky from the reflective Coral Sea. With anticipation I walk off the sand, around the meandering path that hugs the headland, sometimes the outlook from the other side of the headland is even more dramatic. As I walk the skyline to my left is constantly changing, as too are the rough varied surfaces underneath my bare feet. I move around onto the large rocky headland that slopes down to the ocean. The now expanded south-facing aspect reveals an ominous horizon, not crisply defined as it was only one minute ago but now smudged with approaching rain. The wind whips off the ocean with a salty, sticky yet cooling feel. The looming storm excites the local kids that run around the rocks. One responsibly suggests they should head back, another faces the ocean head-on and yells excitedly ā€˜Iā€™m not afraid!!ā€ urging the weather forth. Cool raindrops begin to fall, cutting through the thick humid air. I put my camera under my dress and head back. I glance over shoulder to the horizon that has now disappeared completely. The ocean and sky merge into one another with a comfortable tonal gradient.
